Proof of ID and address for mortgage application

I've applied for a mortgage with the Halifax, who I've banked with for 2 years. Valuation and survey done, no further info needed, awaiting mortgage offer, etc, when they suddenly ask to see proof of ID and address again.

I've already been to the branch in my nearest town with my passport to get it verified and faxed over to the mortgage department (they didn't ask to see my OH's passport, just mine). The member of staff said I was already verified as a current customer but she certified my passport anyway. I have completed one address verification sent to our house; my OH has completed two. I scanned both our passports and 2 bills for proof of address and emailed them to our mortgage broker when we first applied, and I sent original proof of address for both of us to the mortgage broker a couple of weeks ago, along with online statements (for the broker; apparently Halifax said they didn't need them since my accounts are with them!)

I don't understand why I should have to prove my identity again and again when I am already a Halifax customer and they have told me I am already verified.

Can anyone in the know clue me in?

Sounds to me as though there is a admin oversight - if it were me, I would either ring myself or get my broker to ring, and advise them, what you have stated here.

As a general, there are 2 types of ID - Proof of ID, and Proof of Residence.

Proof of ID - usually 2 pieces

Photo ID - general idea is a valid passport and photo driving licence (with the paper part)
But any other official picture POI is usually considered

Proof of residence (POR) - again usually 2 pieces

Bank statement - less than 3 mths old (but some lenders are ok with 6 mths) - (make sure no charges showing for un auth dds, etc)

Photo driving licence with paperpart (but usually this can't be used for both ID & POR - its one or the other)

Utility bill in the applicants name - as a rule less than 3 mths old (make sure there is no arrears showing !)

    Hope this helps

I was thinking the same thing, but what are my chances of convincing them that they've already had all the proof they asked for?

If there is an admin oversight, you won't need to .... if not, the lender can request any proof of ID or Residence that they deem necessary in support of the app.

Only a conversation with them will answer your questions !!

    Hope this helps

After asking my mortgage broker to clarify, it turns out I'm already verified and they just needed a proof of address for my OH since his catalogue bill wasn't acceptable. One water bill later and I hope they're happy now!
