Where do you shop

Options
as in food shopping?

I tend to do most of mine at Morrisons and the past couple of months I have been looking out for the cheaper versions of the same thing in store and also checking out the yellow stickies for fruit, veg and meats and have had some great bargins such as a huge bag of spuds for 19p.

I have an asda not too far away, netto up the road and lidle not too far away too but never use them apart from today I took my mil shopping to lidle as it is near to where she lives and £20 went pretty far.

Just wondered which people found to be the cheapest but good quality too

  • If I am home - I use Lidl because the quality is by far the best in the area (Tesco and Sainsburys are appalling - I sometimes wonder if we get the veg sweepings left from the London stores at the end of the day - its that bad  ) and as a bonus Lidl's is also the cheapest (Sainsburys and Morrisons are SO expensive:eek: ).

If I am at my OHs house, I like to go into Horsham to visit the market and butchers as I get choice and quality and the price is usually pretty good too! Occasionally we make the trip to Asda and I have just discovered there is a Lidl in Worthing - not too far away.

    Hi Bexstars,

I usually spread my weekly shop between tesco, asda and lidl and sometimes when I'm feeling flush I pop into M&S.

For an idea of members favourites from Aldi, Lidl and Netto have a look at Martin's article: What's hot and what's not at Aldi/Lidl/Netto.

I'll move your thread over to the Shop but Don't Drop board where there are lots of shopping threads and where you should get more replies.

I think from being on this site and from what I have seen for myself there is no 'one' cheapest but good quality place so it pays to be a 'shopping tart' and shop around in the places that you can get to. I am a bit of a 'shopping tart,' I tend to do most of my shopping at M&S (I work there so convenient) and Sainsburys but I do a bit at Lidl from time to time. Occasionally go to Tesco and less often Asda. If I see something on offer in the leaflets from Somerfield that I want then I may go there as it is nearby but unless its on offer I do think they are quite dear.
Now there is an Aldi just opened in town I may star making use of there after I have given a few things a try first.
  • Most Saturday morning see my Mum and I teaming up for an all out attack on our local Morrisons, Lidl & Aldi. Sometimes we throw Netto & Iceland into the mix and we also use our local markets too. We find that by going to all of them we get a better standard of items than if we stuck to just one. Plus we love hunting out bargains! :D

I do my main shop at Iceland mainly because they are just round the corner from me and they deliver for free (even though they are only round the corner I don't have a car so i can't carry it all home). I do my top up shops in Tesco which is also just round the corner from me and I keep an eye on whats on offer at the corner shop.

My nearest shop is Aldi. It's very cheap, and very good quality.

  • I have a Sainsbury's and a Lidl within walking distance of where I live and so I do all my shopping in those 2 stores.

My nearest Tesco,Asda and Morrisons are all quite a distance from me and as I don't drive,I never visit them.I am quite happy with Sainsbury's and Lidl.

I do buy odd items in M&S when I visit my nearest large city.
  • I have a huge Asda walmart just round the corner but tend to find if i pop in for pint of milk i can normally find a 'bargain' that i just can't resist, resulting in me spending a fortune!
We try to use Lidl as much as possible as its great value, but we couldn't do a complete shop there as i need to buy some items that are branded, such as heinz beans etc
We also go once a month to the butcher and buy in bulk.

So in answer to the original question, for my family it works out best to use a variety of shops.

Our nearest supermarket is Somerfield so that tends to be by default our regular shop for odds + sods. But I favour Waitrose as my local branch accepts any number of coupons so every time I go I get between 50-70% off of the total shop (I tend to get small amounts of shopping there at one time - no more than £10).

Can highly recommend it! Have used £27 worth of coupons there since 1 Dec!
