Insurance for getting married overseas or just travel insurance?

Myself and wife to be are going overseas to get married,is there such a thing as wedding insurance and have anyone on here take this out,or just holiday insurance?
I am thinking as we have booked the hotel and flights with first choice, that if the worst happened it might spoil or could be a nightmare if where wedding was spoiled as well,we will be there days before the wedding takes place, but was wondering what your thought was on insurance for going overseas and getting married

  • My advice is to get both. We insured thru http://www.ecclesiastical.com/foryou/insurance/weddinginsurance/index.aspx and 3 weeks later our venue went into administration!

For the sake of £70 you will have total peace of mind incase any of your suppliers go out of business...

    Good luck

But would i really need it as the holiday and hotel is booked from travel agent and the rest will be done with a wedding planner we picked, which im sure maybe does not get paid until we are there

You or your fiancee could get taken ill just before the wedding...if that happened and you had to cancel you may well have paid the full balance on a hotel you wouldn't be using. Of course you need insurance - the travel agent won't just give your money back out of sympathy! And again on the ilnness front, if you were ill and had to cancel/postpone the wedding, the wedding planner and all the various people working to provide things for your wedding would still want paying - at the very least surely you will have paid some deposits?
And as one other poster has said, what if anything happens regarding any of the suppliers, photographer, dress gets damaged, electricity fails and meal is ruined...insurance is there to protect against all manner of things
You need insurance as soon as you have any money you could lose

    Hi,

I've taken out insurance for the wedding with ecclesiastical as reccommend by many on here, think the policy was £50 & it covers us for marrying abroad. I don't think that part of it covers the hotel & flights but we have seperate insurance for that part. The wedding insurance covers for the weding itself, things going wrong, suppliers going bust, worth the £50 in my opinion.
