Mortgaging own home

One of my children has hit a temporary delay in their mortgage application clearing and may lose the house they are buying. If I lend/give them the total purchase price so that they can pay cash, will they be able to mortgage the house at a later date to part pay me back? If so, is it more difficult or more expensive to do so?
