Alluminium free and BUAV approved deodorant

Hi
I am currently using a faith in nature crystal stick but have found that I am just sweating too much (sometimes when I am nervous) so I am looking for a new deordorant that is alluminium free and buav approved. Any recommendations?

Hi, i have a similar problem and use a Natural Salt deo stick from Wikaniko, it contains no parabens or Aluminium Chlorohydrate. You can buy this from www.wikanikoproducts.org.uk the deo stick is currently available with 20% extra free.

    Hi £2coinsaver,

I love Faith In Nature! If it's not working for you, how about Toms of Maine - they are BUAV approved and do a deodorant, however I'm not sure if it's aluminum free? You could also try own-brand deoderants from Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury's, Superdrug and of course Co-op who are all BUAV approved and don't have anything to do with animal testing. I hope that helps!

The problem is that to stop sweating, you need an antiperspirant as opposed to a deodorant, and the active ingredient in the antiperspirant is the aluminium. So you can buy all the aluminium free deodorants in the world, and they won't stop you sweating.

Thanks for the replies. Just realised I had spelt Aluminium wrong...twice! Looks like I will have to live with the aluminium as its more important to me that its BUAV approved and I'm just sweating too much at the mo its quite embarrasing.

I've stopped using aluminium & parabens based products, too. I've been using 'Pitrok' and whilst I still sweat it does stop me from getting smelly! Husband used it for a while then decided he preferred his armpits to smell 'of something nice, rather than nothing' (his words, not mine) so he tried the DrOrganics deodorants from Holland and Barrett. He gave up on them as they smelled nice for a few couple of hours but wore off really quickly and he grew tired of sneaking off to the gents at work and trying to wash his armpits!

Here's a product similar to one that my Mum used to use when she was going through the menopause and very conscious of how much she was sweating at work

I find the natural salt stones are good but find i may have to wash and reapply if i am doing anything too strenuous but tbh i would much rather have to do that than use the deodorants and sprays i used to. It worries me when you see adverts about deodorants lasting 48hrs, what on earth do they put in them to make that happen and stopping sweating is actually bad for you. I find the natural sticks work better if you don't wear tight fitting clothing, it seems its when fabric rubs the under arm area it gets damp cos we naturally sweat and then odour starts, loose fitting clothes stop this, still sweat but no clothes to get smelly :)

IIRC years ago women used to wear specific under arm pads to absorb the "glow". These would be perhaps an alternative to aluminium.

  • I bought a Superdrug AP last week which contains aluminium but is BUAV approved. Took forever to dry and I still ended up with wet underarms! Agree Peter Pan about loose clothing, some of my work tops were quite close fitting so I ended up with patches. I've now opted for the work issue clothing looser polo shirts and shirts so I might stick with my faith in nature stick! Think I shall give the pads a miss as it only means more for landfill.

Sorry to quash your assumption but you're still using aluminium! I'm sure you'll be happy to know that what you're putting on your body is actually an industrial waste product of the aluminium extraction process.

Pitrok intentionally mislead customers with the basically meaningless phrase: "No Aluminium chlorohydrate or aluminium zirconium", the two commonest aluminium derivatives used in anti-perspirants. This deception is sometimes then repeated on websites selling the stuff when site owners misinterpret the phrase and describe it as "aluminium-free" (a claim Pitrok are very careful not to make).

The only alternative I've ever seen is 'Thursday Plantation' Tea Tree oil anti-perspirant. Due to some legal issue in the US, they've recently had to rebrand as deodorants rather than anti-perspirants, but essentially they've swapped aluminium for zinc in the ingredients.

Not quite as good as "super turbo dry 48 hours" but it definitely doesn't contain ANY aluminium!
