New Debate: Trampy/shamefull or moneysaving Genius?

Options
following on from the painting a shed debate with my oh..i now have a new dilema.

I have been wanting to section off an area around my raised bed and where i have a new patio set next to my shed. ideally this would be a large arch or something to provide privacy.

now the dilema is this.... next door have dumped a bed that has two sections and they have thoughtfully dumped it next to my back fence because i kindly disposed of the rest of their rat infested junk.

passing by it yesterday i noticed where they have slashed it apart..the whole frame is timber which could provide an ideal base for attaching trellis to create my own screen, maybe using the two sections with two peices of wood atop to create an arch frame very easily at virtually no cost.
oh says that is trampy beyond belief and i will be labelled by the neighbours as such (oh the irony:eek:)
should i do it or let oh buy an arch as he said he will (really it means i buy an arch and he then pretends it was his gift:o:rotfl:)
let the debate begin!:p

I would use it, no hesitation! Saves you money and good for the environment.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Use it.

We ''made'' an arch this year out of some pruned poles from a pollarded tree and some string. It looks rustic-fabulous.;)

BTW, have gone painting mad....pained a planter this weekend too. :) Just can't stop it these days!

My only thought is that it will be cheap indoor grade pine and it will rot away in a couple of years outside. Yes you could treat it but is it really worth the effort and money for the preservative? If it's only for a temporary measure then yes, use it. It's not trampy, it's recycling.

It's dumpster diving without having to go jumping in so no problem at all with it.

Yesterday morning I removed enough new wool carpet from a wheelie bin to do my sons hallway and he used an old sofa base as a raised bed this year.
The sofa was dumped by a park entrance and in a bad state but the wood is really good and thick and has made a great raised bed. The webbing from it has been kept too and the manky fabric covered cushions I took to the dump.

    Trampy my ar*e!

The way I use softwood like this, is to have a metal pole or something similar in the ground, then tie the wood to it with large cable ties, so it is above ground, bit of something to preserve it and it will last years.

Trampy/recycling, I don't care what people think, I'm proud of it.

I put an old cot in pieces outside my house for the bin men and my neighbour knocked and asked if she could have the bars to use as a trellis in her garden. Looks lovely and I certainly think no less of her for it. Do it!
  • the deed is done..., the neighbours caught me at it:eek::rotfl:
i explained what i was doing and cleaned up after, its not as tall as estimated but put side by side it fences off my rased bed area just nice and will also not block out too much light, i have space for a small arch next to it so will get one of those cheap ones from B&M which will fill the last bit of space nicely.
It is only a temporary thing for now so not too bothered about if it falls apart eventually. Ive just got so much to do in garden, so many ideas.. but no money:o
Im making it all up as I go along but ive found a lick of paint to be the cure for a lot of unsightly problems:o
ive also bought a wooden planter from aldi to paint up..sadly though 3 of my daughters baby lovebirds died :(so said i will decoupage some lovebirds on it and maybe crackle glaze over it and use it as a memorial pot for them, recieved a Kate & william rose today for £1 so thats going to go in it. daughters upset but seemed relived not to have them buried under a hedge where they will get dug up by passing cats and a rose will hopefully keep them off:(

i will post pics of the finished project, hopefully it will look good:o

that may mean the new stucture will be a disaster then:eek::rotfl:

my son thoughtfully painted (read as smeared wildly whilst spilling pot on floor)inside the doors of my shed with blue paint and my daughter made a mud mash to splash all over it just to add to the overall effect....the joy of kids:(
