Music Centres + recording/converting

Has anybody bought one of these multi music centre things, usually sold by mail order companies?
Besides playing vinyl, cassettes and CDs, they can also record them to CD and/or convert them to MP3, all within the unit, without using a computer.
If so, are they as good as the adverts suggest?
