Help with thank you cards

Hi,

I am looking into thank you cards at the moment, and we are quite low on budget now!

I am not too sure what the etiquette is in terms of how they should look or what wording they should contain, but I have got an email from Vistapint offering 100 free postcards and wondered if we could make something out of them? We got married abroad, so I would like to do something with a wedding photo on as people weren't present.

Another snag is that I have been having muscle problems and find that my writing is very poor at the moment, and I am worried about handwriting them (and DH writing scruffy), what is the etiquette re: this?

Thnaks in advance,

Leah

Can't help with the vista print query cause I haven't used it - but I'm sure there are plenty of people on here that have used them for their thank you cards.

As for sloppy/messy handwriting. Personally (and I'm a teacher) I would much rather someone hand wrote the most appalling scrawl and meant every word of it than do a general 'thank you' message on the computer and sent it to everyone. :)

I agree with MrsD re handwriting - it honestly doesn't matter. If it's uncomfortable for you, then that's another matter entirely. But I would much prefer a scrawl ;) which I'm sure yours is not. Oh and I'm a teacher too!

I agree with both above (I'm a teacher too - hmmm!) but if it is a real problem you could print thank you cards then leave a space to add just a few words to personalise each one, which is also really nice.

What a nice idea to use a photo. I agree that it is nice to have a personalised thank you. I'm not so worried about handwriting (especially not if it would cause pain!) but something directed to me is always appreciated. I wonder if you could find a neat solution - perhaps stickers?

    Thanks all,

The problem is that my muscles just tire and give in easily, so after a short amount of writing, my hand muscles just fail to do what I want them to do. It ends up looking like some poor spider has crawled across the page after falling in some ink!

I guess if it is important to hand write them., I can just do a few each day, and people will just have to wait a little longer for them!

Do you think it is acceptable to make a postcard style thank you card, and just write on the back?

    Thanks

If people know that handwriting is difficult because of your muscles then they wont be expecting a long letter...perhaps your husband could write a sentance or so and you could then both sign it...
I understand that its difficult fior you...but I really think people will appreciate the time you took to thank them personally...even if it takes a little longer to get the cards out...

    Hi there
We used the vistaprint postcards for our thank you notes and were really pleased with them,

We had one of the wedding photos on the front with our names and date of wedding and another smaller black and white photo on the back with details of our photographer's website so people could look at the photos. So you could easily put a bit of thank you text if you like and add some handwritten comments to it to personalise.
As others have said, if people know your situation they will completely understand not having lengthy thank you notes and/or not expect them too quickly. I think a lot of people are just happy to have an acknowledgement of their gift - anyone who's been married knows that writing thank yous can get a bit hard as you sometimes run out of new/interesting things to say!!

People seemed to like having a wedding photo on the front - we didn't have favours so it was almost like a bit of a souvenir/favour of the wedding and some people have still got them on display even tho we got married a couple of years ago!
    Hope this helps!

    Hi all,

Thanks for your replies, I am going to go on to Vistaprint now and get the postcard thing done, and I do agree that handwriting is best, so I think I just need to do it bit by bit. Most people don't know about the problems with my muscles, so I just want to try and get it done without seeming to have a problem with it.

    Thanks

    Hi all,

Just to say I managed to get 100 for less than £14 in the end!!! We went for postcards - I'll post a pic/scan when they come!

    Good old vistaprint!
