Importing From US to UK charges

Hi there, quick question...

I'm looking to buy a some T-Shirts from the US with a total cost of $223 and a shipping charge or $35 via USPS.

Can anyone tell me about any duty charges I may encounter?

VAT at 20% for one thing.

Thanks for the reply. The thread which you linked was a bit outdated. Does anyone have any recent experiences?

You are liable to pay VAT and customs duty.
You may also have to pay a £8 handling fee to Royal Mail.

One way round it is to ask your seller to mark the total value as just under £18.00 ($29.00) so it won't qualify for taxes. a risk you take regard Insurance tho..
