Princess Tuna Chunks - Pack Sizes?

This is really odd - we bought some cans of princess tuna chunks in brine this weekend from Tesco (4 for £4). On getting them home we noticed the tins were taller than the previous ones in the cupboard.

Everything else is exactly the same (same diameter, same weight of contents etc).

How strange that they have made larger cans?

The only thing that I could put it down to was the older cans were produce of Spain and the new ones are produce of Thailand (same company though!).

Weird - Tesco sources from Thailand over Spain to save money I guess.

I doubt it is tesco changing their sourcing, more likely to be Princess changing where their products are packaged.

I suppose they make the cans taller to make them look as if they have more in.

I can't remember which one it is now, but there is a brand of lager that makes it's 440ml cans thinner, but taller so they are the same hight as other brands 500ml cans.

When you see them on the shelf, if you don't know better, you assume they are 500ml cans.

It's nothing really to do with Tesco. Princes is part of the Mitsubishi Corporation, which is big and Japanese. Although the change in can sizes may well be down to Mitsubishi switching suppliers for the Princes brand.
