Early pension

My friend who is a few days older than me, will get the state pension at the same time as me, at age 61 and 10 months, in January 2014
However in her recent forecast, she says she read that if she takes a slightly lesser amount per week she can get her pension at 60.
It doesn't say this in my forecast.
She is still working at the moment and I am not.
has anyone heard of this please?

She cannot get her State pension before reaching State Pension age.has anyone heard of this please?
She may be getting confused about deferral, where by delaying drawing the pension it gets paid at a higher rate or as a lump sum as and when it is drawn.0 -

What about the State second pension ( additional pension) could it be that?
She is adamant that she can get it at 60 if she takes a reduction. Maybe she will let me see the paperwork so I can see for myself.0 -

Nope, same rules apply. She is adamant that she can get it at 60 if she takes a reduction. Maybe she will let me see the paperwork so I can see for myself.
Adamant? Try to get a bet about it with her

You'd both potentially have additional state pension unless you never worked or were paying the married woman's stamp at all times.
A few days difference in age can make a difference sometimes in when the state pensions become payable. I think that it's a deferral option that she's seeing but without knowing what the paperwork says it's impossible to say.0 -

hehe.
I've just had a look at the deferral information and I agree, I think that is what she is looking at without realising. Her daughter did it for her and she obviously has got the wrong end of the stick

I rang DWP as I didn't want to lose out if friend's information was correct. However, YOU were correct, they said she must be talking about an occupational pension. All cleared up now. Thank you for your replies :beer:0
