I have 2 cartons of double cream in my fridge one says use by Feb 27th and the other by Feb 24th. I'm always doing this forgetting things in the fridge then chucking money in the bin.

Can I use any of them I just tried the feb 27th one and the very top bit tasted a bit sour (from Lidls I remember thinking the last time I got it from ther it didn't last long or tasted a bit sour). The both of them have sat there unopened until now.

Two questions here this one is can I freeze lemons and if so how do I defrost them quickly?

For now, I'd chuck em. I'm not fussy about many things (I'll happily chop the mouldy bits off cheese and still eat it :o ) but I am always careful about cream and milk.

For next time you could freeze the milk when you buy it and just get it out when you need it.

Lemons can be frozen, I got this tip from on here, you slice them and lay them on a backing tray and put them in the freezer then when they are frozen you can put them all in a bag together, not sure how to defrost them though. If you use them in hot honey and lemon or lemon tea then I'd just pop them in the cup.

If you're a gin and tonic drinker freeze slices of lemon and then add them to your G&T - cuts out the need for an ice cube.

Or alternatively an easy way I would imagine is freeze the juice and the rind rather than the whole lemon. Don't think anything strange happens if you heat up lemon juice so I don't see why you can't defrost it in the microwave if you have to.

That is the only problem with this site, I feel sooo guilty if I waste anything (even tumble drier fluff!!! :D )

I am the same with milk. I usually don't check it, it goes on the cornflakes and in the tea then YUK! I hate wasting money and I especially hate wasting food but I seem to be always wasting milk and cream.

My freezer is too small to fit milk in so I now only buy milk in 2 pint/litre (whatever they are now) cartons then buy another one if I need one. I buy 1 on Monday/ Tuesday (shopping day) and another on Friday if I need it. I find if I just buy a 4 pint/ litre on Monday I don't use it and it goes off, it seems to last longer buying 2. It is slightly more expensive to buy 2 x 2 instead of 1 x 4 but I buy (and waste) less so it must be cheaper in the long run (if all that rambling made sense!)

I have worst confessions too. Last week I threw out £4's worth of lamb that I had forgotten/not had time to use, not the first time by far so this week I have written a list of the perishables in the fridge and will make sure that I use them.

It's so easy for things to get shuffled to the back of the fridge over a few days and then forgotten.

I'm always doing that too, but I give the stuff to the birds and foxes that visit my garden. Well, they have to eat too............. :o

Can't you bake with sour cream? I'm sure old-fashioned scone recipes call for sour milk/cream

Hi, you should put your tuimble drier fluff on your compost heap, as most of the fibres will bioderade and what doesnt will be "roughage" when you dig it in.
