I have no idea about what you have just said?? Quite honestly I'm not sure the ENTIRE female population have been banging a drum??
If you are talking about what people have written on here, I often think that people will say things on here, that they would never say in real life!But the female population for years have been banging their drum about it NOT being an illness and requesting equal treatment.
Why are you therefore surprised when people start believing that mantra?
People are demanding rights to be treated the same during pregnancy and then expect, nay demand, different and extra treatment above what everybody else gets.0 -

I am not convinced the OP has a right to time off in the first place! It is arguable that this is not ante-natal care, but illness, for which no such right exists. If you have - oh, I don't know, bunions? Will that do? - you may need to go for medical treatment but you have no right to time off with pay (or without it) for it. It seems that what the OP is saying is that the hospital appointments are due to illness which is a side-effect or caused (or exacerabted) by the pregnancy - not actually related to the pregnancy. Ante-natal care is related to the pregnancy. So I am not sure that this is clear cut one way or the other, and compromise may be the best way to resolve it.

She could be on consultant led care rather than midwife led if she had for example complications in a previous pregnancy. I'm not sure her OP gives enough info to know.
Irrespective of the legal niceties though, a decent employment relationship requires trust on both sides, and I know from experience that employers do dislike and remember employees who take the pee when pregnant just because they can (not because I did, I hasten to add!). This can colour the whole relationship for years after the pregnancy, and lead to all manner of discretionary requests being refused.
If I only worked 2 days a week, there is no way I would take time off on one of those days for antenatal appointments. If I currently worked Mondays and Tuesdays and the antenatal clinic was only on a Monday, I would ask my employer if I could change my working days to Tuesdays and Wednesdays and would still pay the same in childcare and do my full 16 hours a week.
I had 2 of my 3 children whilst working 4 days per week as a solicitor, and I never once missed a single minute of my working day for anything antenatal. I arranged all my appointments and scans for my regular day off, and where that wasn't possible I switched my working days around so that I took the day of the appointment off and worked my regular day off instead.0 -
Whilst switching work day/day off in order to keep the medical appointment seems sensible to avoid extra nursery fees, it is not always possible for the contract with the nursery to be changed at will.0

I never said ENTIRE female population. Would you have preferred it if I had plucked a random % out of the air. Maybe I should have said a vociferous proportion that generate headlines.
