Thank you all for your ideas and sympathy! We're quite willing to look asfar afield asneeds be,so have been lookingacross Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire. Hadn't thought of looking overthe bridge though,so that's next - Dingestow Hall has been bookmarked!

So sorry to hear you're having venue issues :(

Have you signed a contract with either of them? If so, then it's worth checking what you are committed to- if we were to cancel, we would be liable for the full amount- ie hall hire plus food & drinks for their minimum numbers, if they couldn't hire out the hall for our date. Even if they could re-hire the hall, the deposit we have already paid is non-refundable. I guess all places have differen t&c's but just thought I should mention it.

Is there anyway you can keep the venues you have already chosen and cut costs, things like cheaper menus, serving cake as dessert etc, less decorations, or is it definitely over budget?

I'm sure you will sort something fabulous out my dear, and you've got plenty of time so please don't panic xx
  • Have been going through my venue book...

I have Temple Cloud - has no kitchen so caterers will have to heat food themselves somehow cost £200 all day. The front is parking space so not very nice however has fab views at the back and across the field. The room is also very big and can hold 200 seated.

Chew Magna - fab renovated barn but cost £400 for the whole day. No views but it's located right beside the church so has some greenery. It has 2 rooms- 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs which means the dancing can be set up away from the food and the room can then be used for activities

Compton Dando - I liked it online but did not view it as it was not available for our date.

and you can always call Craig Y Nos - they seemed happy to negotiate.

    Good luck xx

Friends of mine had their wedding on Glastonbury Tor ( no good for elderly relatives though). Had you thought of Wooky Hole. I think they do weddings.

Don't really have anything to add as I don't know the area, but sorry to hear you're having problems finding the right venue. I'm sure whatever you do will be right for you. x

  • Hey i had the same problem, trying to include all the family and their neighbours etc. on a small budget, (£10,000) I am lucky enough to rent 6 acres of pasture for my horses to graze, so when i realised that my venue was going to cost nearly half of that i had to re-think the venue! So i am using my fields as the venue as it cost me nothing other than the price of a temporary event notice from the council which was £25. I then searched for a reasonable priced marquee to hire, and found someone who is hiring a marquee and table & chairs for 120-150 ppl including lights, linings, carpets and dancefloor for £1700! (cash) Bargain! So 1 idea would be 2 ask around some farmers to see if they may rent u an acre or 2 for a week and find your caterers, marquee, generator etc. and ask about cash price as they seem to like cash and it works out cheaper as they avoid vat and u get a bargain! I've managed to get a full lamb & hog roast with salads, sauces, bread rolls, desserts and an evening bbq including paper plates and plastic cutlery for £1,795 cash! Also managed to hire a trailer bar to sell alcohol to attend for free and drinks prices are quite reasonable!- If u have at least 100 guests attending (including kids). I hired some posh loos for £450, Generator hire cost about £150, but if you find a generous farmer that has nearby electricity mains source you may be able to bung him a few quid and save a bit of money too! I live in south wales so not far from bristol, but if you want any more info or any contacts then i'd be happy to pass on some to you! I am getting married in 2 wks (18 june) and will admit that it has been hard work putting it all together but worth it! I have also hired a rodeo bull and bouncy castle to keep everyone entertained! Thats the beauty of having space i suppose! Can't wait!
Anyway good luck with your plans and hope you found this useful!
