Ive been to Devon a few times in the summer with small kids (now 15 and 21). The Dartmouth area is lovely with Kingsbridge and Salcombe further down. Lovely fish restaurants and quaint little villages with thatched cottages. Lovely marina in Dartmouth and great beaches all along coast there.Paignton is good for families amusements etc. there is also the zoo there and a couple of theme parks in that area too.theres loads of places with wooden chalets to rent or any amount of caravan parks.also plenty of cottages to rent.try www.holidayrentals.co.uk. www.cottages4u.co.uk
ive got the craft bug, watch out its catching!!!;)

Sidmouth/Branscombe/Beer are all lovely, as is Budleigh Salterton. Lots to do nearby such as visit Seaton Tramway, Pecorama, Crealy, Exeter, Honiton. You can even get to Dartmoor etc quite quickly. Also lovely walks along the coastal path. I go back every year I love it so much and my kids are the same age as yours! We normally stay in a caravan park there, but there are plenty of B&Bs, hotels, holiday lets and campsites in the area.
  • Hi swnat,

We regularly stay at Hoburne Torbay which is a caravan park in Paignton, Devon. It's close to lots of attractions like Paignton Zoo, Babbacome Model Village, Dartmouth Steam Railway, Bygones and it's quite close to Woodlands Adventure Park. It's also a great base for exploring Devon - it's a 40 minute drive to Plymouth and a 30 minute drive to Exeter.

As a new member I can't post links but you can Google 'Hoburne Torbay' :)

On site there is a clubhouse with facilities like swimming (indoor and outdoor), a fitness room, steamroom and sauna, crazy golf, arcade with slot machines and those 2p pushing machines. There's a bar and cabaret every night and the food is reasonably priced. There's also a kid's club if you want to take advantage of that.

Prices are very reasonable and there are varying levels of caravan depending on your budget. We've stayed in the Gold and Silver caravans and they are excellent, all with oven, microwave, fridge, TV etc. Some even have a freezer.

There is a Sainsburys about 1 mile away so you can stock up on essentials at any time. The only thing I would say is to bring your own towels!

    Chris :)
  • I would also add that whilst Kent's Cavern is a really interesting attraction, it's not a 'whole day' thing and it's quite expensive at £8.95 (Considering that for £11, you get a whole day in Paignton Zoo!)

Look out for money-off vouchers too. Reception desks and kiosks in the local area often have a stock of discount vouchers! :T

A visit to Hoves Cove is a must beautiful beach, get there early as parking very limited, icecream kiosk and resturant for lunch, a nice 10 min walk along the coast takes you to another stunning beach, go crabing in Dartmouth, we went last August and Dartmouth had a week long regatta it was fab.

If you can stay in Dartmouth lots around there, I went to paignton and ok for a day or 2 but not enough for a whole week. You can get a train from Dartmouth to Paignton.

I can't believe nobody has said woolacombe - The beach is lovely and I can highly recommend woolacombe sands holiday park as its got kids club and nightly entertainment. They have caravans, chalets, touring and camping and are pet friendly too. I go atleast once a year for the last 8 years :) Also nearby is coombe martin dinosaur park and zoo which my grandkids adore when we go there. I'm sure my son has been quad boking and body boarding when he used to come with me but i never went as i dont think my body would cope with that so i just usally take a stroll into the lovely town and relax on the golden sand beach ..... heaven in the uk? maybe.....
