I can see i need to talk to a technician. But all the nail bars are just heaving with customers. If Cameron could get some of their money he could wave the deficit goodby in a week.
Seriously though, when we be best time to pop in - very first thing when they open? I must admit I normally go past at lunchtime when it would be a no-no

I would think it's best that you sort the problem first, you probably have a deficiency in the vitamins and minerals that keep your nails heathy and strong. They sell packs of vitamins in places like holland and barretts and boots. It would probably be best to see your GP and see if they can help or refer you to a specialist.

The problem with gel nail poverlays or extensions is that they file the top of the nails to prepare the base so that the gel sticks and stays out for 4 weeks. The problem you are going to have is if/when you decide you no longer want to keep up with the cost of having them redone evry four weeks and the refills roughly every two weeks you will find your nails underneath will be in a much worse condition than when you had started.

I do mine myself (although not at the moment, it's not practical with youg children lol) and depending on how I feel when they need redoing I quite like the natural nails for a less obvious look and they always look lovely afterwards.

Have you investigated Shellac nails - no filing or damage to the nail. The coating is very strong and protects the nail underneath allowing it to grow naturally. If you go with a pale colour then the regrowth isn't as obvious. Should last at least 3 weeks between treatments.

Go and speak with a nail tech first though.

I have ruined my nails with having one set of gel nails applied. I cant believe the damage they did!

If you want strong nails you need to bite them for a long time. t2628.gif Worked for DH and friends who bit their nails for years.

The overlay type of nails do need regular rebalancing with occasional removal & re-doing.

i once had silk wrap false nails and found these called less damage than any of the others. You still get them filled in every couple of weeks but they were much thinner than gel nails

I now have my nails natural and they are ok although i love the perfection look that you get from false nails

It doesn't really matter which ones you get to be honest, the only difference between the gel and acrylic is the strength. The gel are the best in my opinion as they are strong but not too rigid, meaning less chance of cracking or chipping and needing infills as often. Some will say silk wrap is best but to be hoest in my opinion I don't agree.

I get my supplies online from a beauty supplier, but you can get do it yourself at home kits. Rio do a 'quick dip' kit which is as it says quite easy and quick, comes with an instruction dvd and costs around £20. The results wont be as good as a salon but when I started out doing nails I had a go with these as a comparison to other methods and found the results ok. Sally Hansen also sell silk wrap kits.

I would say if you have weak nails you should go to a professional though as you don't want to cause unnecessary damage

I have bio sculpture gel nails without extensions and they are brilliant, hard and strong and look fantastic - I am always getting compliemnts about them.

I have tried the jessica gels, I love Jessica products (in fact I use the phenomore oil on my nails everyday to ensure my nails do not dry out and become weak under the gel.) and the Jessica Gels are very nice and natural but not as hard wearing.

I did have shellac, once, never again as they looked thick and lumpy, so highly recomend Bio sculpture
Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!

When choosing the type of nail overlay or extension to have to help weak nails, there are 2 prime considerations (IMHO).
Will your chosen system soak off? You don't want to have to file away the overlay to replace it, this WILL make your nails worse.
Does you chosen salon exclusively hand file? Nail drills (basically electric nail files) seem to be getting very popular in salon, in the wrong hands they can cause very nasty, permanent damage to your nails. I would never let anyone use one on my nails.

I have used gel and fiberglass nails at home with great success.I have a Rio UV gel nail kit (the supplied get doesn't soak off) which I now use with a soak off gel I bought through a nail tech supply place online. I also bought my fiberglass kit from the same online shop (thenailwarehouse), its a little fiddly cutting the fiberglass wrap, but the results are very good. I have always managed to keep nails on for at least 8 weeks per application, with a couple of infils between, depending on your job, and how careful you are, you could find they last you longer than many people say too.
Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!
