Northern Rock - On probation

My fiancee and I are currently looking for first house.
We have spoke to Northern Rock who ran credit check and stated we have a higher credit rating therefore stated how much we could lend.
The problem is my fiancee throught she was only on a 6 month probabtion with the Revenues and Customs but she has just found out it is actually 12 month probation.
It is the civil service therefore job is 100 % secure as had 6 month review and has received high praise.
Has anyone had any experiences with Northern Rock and probabtion ?

When my partner and I applied to NR through a broker, we were given an amount we could borrow up to but when he was checking our employment details it was specified that we must not be on probabtion. The employers have to give certain details including confirming not on probation. Lucky for me my employers had just ended my probabtion early!
Not sure if this is a standard requirement for all applications though, but if it is the employer have to declare if she is on probabation and probably wouldn't be a good idea if they were to fib.0 -
Hi Simon,
I was in a similar position and was told by Northern Rock that if you work for someone like the police then they don't mind you being on a probationary period. Revenues and Customs may well come under their criteria of "secure jobs" also so you might have nothing to worry about. Did you tell them she was on a probationary period before they gave you an agreement in Principle? If so, then I wouldn't have thought it should be a problem. They refused to even gave us an AIP as my gf is on prob. period.
We ended up going with Nationwide as they consider all applicants on a probationary period. They just required a letter from her employer.
Good luck anyway.0 -
Hi,
Thanks for fast replies
Went to Northern Rock on lunch and explained situation.
She just took some details regarding my fiancees previous job and stated normally if the are similiarities in posts for example admin work that they are normally ok with it. Also the fact that credit rating is high will go in our favour,
they may just need copy of her last probabtion meeting. Due to the fact it is the civil service it is counted as a "secure job".
I would have looked around at other lenders but the fact i want to consolidate car loans etc this was the best option.
The lady at northern rock sounded hopeful so fingers crossed!

Just for info the Civil Service is anything but secure these days, especially with the additional 5% cuts announced in the Pre Budget report!"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Make sure you get a 100% reply that the probation period is OK with NR before you pay for the fees.
NR has some of the highest fees in the marketplace. Did you check with other lenders? There are surely better deals around especially if you have a high credit rating and good jobs.0
