Where to buy NON-breathable waterproof plasters?

I want some non-breathable waterproof plasters, as the moisture can help with the healing of some skin issues. This doesn't happen with breathable plasters- the wound remains dry.
Does anyone know where I can buy some? Shops, ebay or other online outlets are fine. Thanks!

I dont know if Im on the right track here but I scalded my arm pretty badly this year and as it dried and scabbed it kept splitting and healing was a nightmare
I finally bought some dressings from the chemist - the pharmacist ordered them for me - that had a big bacterial barrier pad on it that seemed to keep the scald moist till it healed enough for me to stop needing dressings
They were activheal and could a pound or so each0 -
How about covering a normal breathable plaster with something waterproof and inpenetrable. Don't know what kind of wound it is and whether that would be practicable.
It sounds a bit odd and you would have to make sure you don't have a reaction to the adhesive, but a strip of electrical insulation pvc tape is very effective at waterproofing and keeping a regular plaster in place.
This is something I often do if I'm doing heavy work and need to ensure a plaster stays in place. It works well for cuts on fingers, maybe less easy to apply elsewhere though. It comes in white, which doesn't look as obvious as the black tape..........like this
Just a thought0 -
Think you might be looking for something like this....

You can also get small normal plaster sized ones0 -
Thankyou all for your replies. I'm definitely going to ask the chemist about the activheal dressings next time I'm in town. They sound like the sort of thing I'm after.
I have two needs essentially- one is just covering small cuts or insect bites, for which I need waterproof plasters. The other problem is a small recurring patch of shingles.
My doctor recommended some kind of coverings for the shingles- they were like white squares of plastic, about the size of a picture postcard. I attached them using some kind of surgical tape- they weren't adhesive, nor were they absorbent- they were sterile sheets of plastic, and they really worked. Unfortunately, I can't remember what they were called, and I now have a different doctor.
I suppose I could just tape a bit of a plastic carrier bag over the area, but I'd be concerned over how sterile that would be!
For small cuts I have occasionally used a small square of plastic from the back of the plaster in the centre of the plaster to cover the pad. It works ok I suppose, but not as well as a proper plaster, plus I worry a bit about whether it might be damaging to the skin.
Hmmm, just a thought, those blue catering plasters would be waterproof wouldn't they? I'm pretty sure they're not breathable...0 -
Hydrocolloid dressings are brilliant, they are very thin sheets and can be cut to various sizes. They are kept on for a few days and work wonders on any wound. When you put them on they mould to you skin with warmth. They look a bit like thinly rolled marzipan?
You can pop any dressing over the top to protect them, like a plaster.
Ask the chemist about them. My family swear by them0 -

Blue catering plasters, well most of them anyway, ARE breathable and although waterproof to a degree, don't survive very long! I am in catering and occasionally suffer from cracks in my fingers, which is what I use the blue tape for, I mentioned above. I use a strip of this in blue, ON TOP of a normal sterile plaster and it doesn't budge and is completely waterproof, if not pretty.
As long as any wound itself is covered with a sterile dressing, any covering will be ok as long as it is new and clean. Cling film is a suggested emergency covering for burns for example. Can you make use of this over a sterile dressing at night for example, in the absence of anything else or squares of plastic, cut from new food grade plastic bags?0
