Cheaper to buy 2 boxes of washing powder than 1 at ASDA?

Hey everyone! just been looking on line at prices of washing powder at the big 4, and I noticed something a bit strange on asda's website.

For a box of 42 wash Fairy Non-Bio its £10.39, yet for a 28 box of Fairy Non-Bio its only £4. To me this means that you can get 56 washes for £2.39 cheaper than getting a supposedly "better value" big box!

Have I missed something or is this misleading? Sorry if I'm going over old ground! :(

No, you are right. I found this on caramel biscuit bars in Tesco. It always pays to see if two smaller packs are cheaper than one big pack. The stores want you to buy the big packs, they think you won't check!

  • It was on Watchdog a while ago about how the supermarkets are selling the big "value" packs for more than buying two/three/etc small packs. I can understand it if there is an offer on the smaller pack so for that time it's cheaper, but the times when both products are just at their normal prices and it works out more to get a value pack is just plain wrong.

I don't understand how they can advertise something as being a "big value pack"/being better in value for buying in bulk when the same product is cheaper in smaller quantities. It's rather misleading...!
