This company offers good wages as a courier, but you have to pay £75 up front. Is this a scam.

Which company?
And yes it is likely to be a scam if you have to pay them anything.0 -
I assume the OP means "Local Courier Services".
It certainly looks like a scam, the website was registered less than two months ago using a pre-packaged design, there is no such company as "Local Courier Services" on Companies House. Just use common sense OP...0 -
why not post your job on anyvan?
what is it you want moving?0 -
Ignore that, Im assuming op wants to be a courier
do you have your own van/insurance? you could list your self on ebay/vivastreet/gumtree etc as man with a van, also anyvan but dont know what they charge you as a trader as have only used them as a customer0 -
Scam. What are you paying for?
I run a transport company including small vans and it's simple. I pay a driver x amount per hour and that's it - nothing up front.
Avoid like the plague!0 -
I've tried two post codes in the home counties of London.
No courier available on their panel for either locations.
The problem here is splitting the cash between driver and controller, hence probably the 75 quid charge (is that daily/per week/per job??).
For some reason it seems incredibly difficult to set up an enduring automated "taxi" controlling system in the UK.
It also seems to be difficult to create a successful "return load" system for white van men - so one hell of a lot of time and diesel is being wasted running with no pay load, not to mention the time wasted sitting in porter cabin offices waiting for work.
Manganese Bronze (builders of the London black cab) tried to create a system called "Zingo" running off an 0870 number that knew where the punter was from the location of his mobile phone and put the caller through directly to the nearest free black cab driver - but it seems to have fizzled out.0 -

I think that is where the anyvan concept tries to work. I think the initial concept was for companies to pick up work on the return trip to cover fuel costs etc. Again I dont know much about it from a business point of view but have used them as a customer and works well from my viewpoint and if it does help couriers be more "green" and make a few quid whilst saving me a little cash its all good0 -
Courier 'jobs' are one of the notorious 'scams', so 99.99% chance of being a way for somebody you've never met to get £75 from 1000 people per year.
Nice work if you can get it.0 -
What you see is what you get. They do nothing for you other that put your name onto a data base. This costs £75.00. Once you have paid you wait for business, you wait and wait and wait. Don,t expect anything to happen. With regards to the 30 day money back gaurantee, don't hold your breath. I was suckered into this and soon realised you wern't getting what you thought was being offered. I'm still trying to get my £75.00 back. My advice is steer clear.0
