Soldering or Pink Nail Varnish

My beloved headphones have been crackling for a couple of days now. I guessed it was the wiring getting loose  . So today in an effort to save money (and a walk to the shops) I pulled them apart and because I dont have a soldering kit I thought about it and decided pink nail varnish would do the trick
. Guess what
, it only lasted for about half an hour, but it could have worked, so it made me think what have others done that have by some small miracle have worked and made them feel [STRIKE]smug[/STRIKE] proud..... (I went and bought new headphones tonight) Should I have tried a different colour
