Left Handed Knive Set

My Daughter is in year 10 at school and is taking Hospitality and Catering as one of her GCSE options, Chef at school thinks she will do really well and I would like to invest in a decent but not to expensive set of left handed knives for her as it would make her life so much easier. I have looked at /www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk and knives on there are roughly £20-£25 each. That is way to expensive for me, they also have to be in a "wrap" as opposed to a block. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks
Maria

I can't help you right now, but I will ask my LH friend who trained as a chef. I'm also LH, but don't cook. I will ask my friend whether there are just two or three knives which your daughter would get the most use out of, and whether any old knife could have its blade made for use in either hand. If that makes sense.
Of course, someone might tell you tomorrow what you need to know.0 -

Okay, just spoke to Steve, who says that any Chef's knife can be used LH; as long as the handle isn't shaped, you just sharpen the blade more on the appropriate edge. To start a set, he suggested a good chopping knife, then whatever else takes your fancy. It seems that you can get different sizes of similar bladed knives. Unless you are surprising your daughter, could she suggest a few, such as a cleaver, or other blades? Speaking from personal experience, I bought knives for my chef boyfriend (just remembered - he was LH too and used the knives straight from new); japanese steel is good, and Global is a good brand (expensive tho). Would your daughter need a sharpening steel/wetstone? Could that be an alternative?0
