I am looking for a new job as i am relocating in three weeks does any one know if i am allowed time off if i am offered an interview? I have been in my current employment for just over a year and a work colleague was denied afternoon off work to attend an interview. I dont want to be in the same situation if i am offered an interview!
Thanks

You have no right for time off for an interview. Though if you are at risk of redundancy or in the consultation period you do.
You need to book it as leave.

Let's hope your new potential employers don't find out .The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

Or your old one. Because doing this will result in your being dismissed, and that will look great on the reference for any potential new employer.0 -

Yeah, if your old employers find out and include in a reference? Or re-write the reference to take it into account the "sickie".

Yes - because claiming to be sick when you are verifiably not sick almost always results in dismissal - it is fraud. But of course the OP is welcome to take their chances.0 -
Presumably you have handed your notice in and they know you are leaving because of a house move.
They might be prepared to be a bit flexible if you ask nicely, it's not like you are applying for other jobs behind their backs, you could offer to make the time up.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

You can try politely asking if they would allow you the day off and then make it up but taking a sickie isn't the best idea as it could come back to haunt you eg you pull a sickie and you don't get the job but someone you work with saw you going to the interview and reported back to management saying "i thought so and so was off sick today well i saw her out and about earlier"No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

I havent put my notice in and i havent secured an interview yet. But if I thoughtI had a good chance at getting the job I would do anything to go to that interview even if it risked getting caught. A collegue at work missed out on a job interview that offered better hours three times the wage because they refused her time off work (fair enough) but I would have pulled a "sickie" to go to that interview if i was in her situation. The job I am in now is minumum wage rubbish hours and a boring job which is part of the reason im moving because of the better prospects in the area im going to.
You only live once and if an opportunity came up to get a better job and wage then i am going to do anything to secure it!0
