good concealer

I'm getting married in September and I've been advised not to use illuminating concealer like touche eclat because it will make me look like a reverse panda in the photos. I'm very pale so any dark circles and spots stand out a mile.

Can anyone recommend a decent matt concealer? I use estee lauder double wear foundation but their concealer is £19 and I'd hoped to spend less on that.

Actually, while I'm at it, can anyone recommend a brilliant waterproof mascara as well. Not maybelline though cause for some reason that just flakes off leaving me looking like a lost member of Kiss.

Thanks x

Laura Mercier does the most amazing concealer. It is initially a big outlay but it lasts forever. I use mine every day and it is still going strong a year later (yes, I know it is probably out of date but I don't care!). I have paid much less for products in the past but it is false economy as they just run out quickly and give poor results.

use a lancome mineral poweder foundation which also works very well as a concealer...bought it in the USA over a year ago for about £30 and it's still going strong :)

As for mascara, look at Blinc. Their mascara doesn't smudge *at all*. It's been a lifesaver for me...plus they can send you a trial size on the cheap if you want to try it out...that's what I did :)

    Hello!

I swear by Collection 2000 concealer. I can't remember what it's called, but it's in a tube with a wand applicator (something like lasting finish....) It's not the lipstick shaped one.

I'm really pale and suffer with dark circles no matter how much water I drink and sleep I get! Honestly it's cheap as chips and covers all day. I use it every day, including on my wedding day :)

    Good luck!

You should try MAC or Illumasque as they have tons of shades to try such as ones that have a bit more yellow in to cover redness/bags etc

you can even ask one of the girls on the counter to help you choose the right colour for your skin tone

Im not too sure about how much they cost but i've heard that they are good.

  • Check the vids by Pixiwoo on you tube, I''m sure there are a few bridal makeup tutorials on there.

There are other good tutorials, but I prefer Pixiwoo. They also list the products they've used which is good.

I used Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda for my recent wedding. A bit tricky to get hold of but not impossible if you hunt around online for it. (See review post here: http://biancasbeautyblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/sonia-kashuk-hidden-agenda-concealer.html)

For mascara, I used JML Magic Minerals Lash Extending Mascara - super stuff! http://biancasbeautyblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/jml-magic-minerals-lash-extending.html
Not waterproof though I don't think so don't wear it if you think you'll cry. Rimmel's waterproof mascaras are very good as well if you prefer.

For a general post on wedding makeup, see my blog here: http://biancasbeautyblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/royal-wedding-makeup.html

    Hope this helps a bit!

Bourjois clubbing range is fantastic for long lasting, smudge free, sweat resistant etc etc.

Concealer wise Maybelline have some really pale versions. I am also very pale skinned and find their mineral foundation (liquid) which has a concealer version also is pale enough for me so long as I stick to the palest shade.

Bobbi Brown have excellent quality pale concealers too if you can afford the price, they will match to your skin tone if you ask, also Mac are another brand to check out, do every colour under the rainbow!

Mascara wise I find Maybelline is OK for me- have you tried the one-by-one mascara they do? can't speak for all of them but this doesn't flake on me. Benefit is good if you have lots of lashes but not if their short, it doesn't legnthen its just very thorough. Max Factor are OK, don't act as astoundingly as they claim IMHO but do a fair job and don't flake. Boots No.7 are OK (all apart from the squared version!!) but your best waiting for a £5 off voucher to come through as they are expensive otherwise. I always found Boujoirs flaked on me :( Not good as I wear glasses and the flakes collect in the rims of my glasses and I cannot get them out even with submerging in water and going for gold with a nail brush!

If you do have the cash, or your birthday is coming up, I'd recommend the Chanel Exceptionel (sp?) mascara or new DiorShow version which both have fantastic mascaras.

    Thanks x

I bought some DW powder recently and at the EL counter they had a double ended DW concealer and a Magnascopic (I think) mascara both are excellent products and probably just what your looking for if your already a EL DW fan, they give this out as a gwp but I chose something else as I already have this, might be worth asking anyway - hth:)
