Hi, I'm a newbie to this board and am not sure if this is the right place for my post, but just wanted to thank Martin for turning my life around.
Just over a year ago I was listening to the Jeremy Vine Show and Martin was on talking about credit cards. At the time I owed £10,190.81p on 9 credit cards. I heard Martin saying something like "If you only pay the minimum payment each month on £5,000 of credit it will take you 81 years to pay it off!! Well, it might not have been 81 years - it was a year ago and my memory is not as good as it was - but it was certainly a very long time. Anyway, this was my lightbulb moment, as I had been doing exactly that - paying the minimum amount.
So, I want to tell Martin that his shouting at me worked and I have got my debt down to £7,178.26p and hope to be debt-free by July 2008 (Hurrah!!)

Well done on that LBM, I've been around these boards for 2 years and only had my LBM in October!
We had been paying the minimum payment on a card and the interest was £5 less than the payment, therefore we were paying off just £5 a month!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -

Well by my calculations!

If you had £10,190.00 on a card that charged 12.9% APR and you only paid the minimum 2% a month it would take you 38 years and 6 months to pay it off and you'd pay £11,179.00 in interest!
