Help! 40th birthday ideas that won't break the bank!

Help needed please!
It was my 40th birthday in February and one of my best friends from school sent me some lovely flowers and a helium balloon.
She lives a long way away from me now and we don't see each other very often, or speak very often. However, it is one of those relationships where months (or even years) can pass without us actually meeting up or speaking on the phone (though we do keep in touch by email, birthday and Christmas cards etc) but when we do, it is just like no time has passed at all.
It is her 40th birthday on Saturday and I thought about sending her some flowers as well. The problem is, I can't seem to find anything for much under £30. I don't want to appear stingy but I didn't want to spend quite so much! (My OH is lucky if I spend that amount of money on him for his birthday!)
Any ideas for either alternative sources of flowers or something else entirely, that I could have delivered to her for her special day?!

What about a home made survival kit? Could be a bit of fun. Maybe a book or DVD that has a special meaning from amazon.
Do you have any photos of you both. You could make a collage priny from here or another site?
What about a voucher for a manicure or pedicure from a local beauty salon. If you use yell.com you can find ones with websites that let you purchase gift vouchers online.
Have alook also at the grabit forum, there might be some jewellery or something that you like.0 -

Hi PigginSkint,
What about Bunches? I have used them several times with great success. They have some lovely flowers at lower prices than £30.00. Here's a link to a birthday gift set with a cake:

Also if you have Quidco I think you can get cashback through them.
Hope this helps!

I would go for the beauty voucher personally! Or you could try calling a local florist via yell.com and see what they can offer. (I've done this before and got on much better than when I used Interflora).Bump due 22nd September0

Have you thought about having a birthday cake delivered to your friend?
But If I were to decide, I would also go for a voucher for a salon or even a spa to pamper herself on her special day.0
