Discharged Bankrupt-Selling Travel Insurance

Hiya

Apologies if this is in the wrong place and I am posting for my brother, who needs a bit of advice please...

I’m about to start work with a travel agent and due to begin my 3 weeks training next week.

In my contract that I’ve been sent, I have a copy of a FSA Declaration Form to complete as part of the job is selling insurance.

I quote from it:
“As part of these regulations, all companies selling insurance (of any kind) are now required by law to ensure that all their staff are of a ‘fit & proper’ nature. Under the FSA guidelines [company name removed] has to ask all staff who sell travel insurance to declare any criminal offences and to ask about their financial background.”

The problem I have is that I was made bankrupt 4 years ago, and discharged 6 months later (3 and half years ago).

So, what do I do?
Do I declare on the form where it asks, “ Been bankrupt or served with a bankruptcy notice” yes, or do I say no?

I don’t want to say no, then be found to have been and have the job taken away, but then if I say yes, will it mean I’m not able to do the job?

Can anyone who might know about this please give me any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, as the question askshave you ever been bankrupt or served with a bankrupty notice then you must answer yes, a simple search of the london gazette will still show your notice, I dont know if they will let you keep the job, but better you been honest and upfront then lying and them finding out,

My OH is a financial advisor and he has been able to keep his job. He has had certain permissions retracted but he is OK to practise certain things. It comes with a lot of extra compliance and the FSA has been informed all the way. If you keep the FSA informed they take it on a case by case basis

Hi both, thanks for replying. My brother sent off the form and ticked that he had been bankrupt. This went to head office and so far he has heard nothing back, so fingers crossed that as he has almost finished his training (which has cost a fortune!) he can carry on with his job.

    Once again, thanks for replying
