A question about making offers when own house not sold

Hi
We have decided to move house. Our own house is not on the market yet, probably about 5 weeks away at best. However, my wife is already looking!
My instinct is that, at the very least, until our home is on the market, there is little point in my wife finding the perfect home. I think this as I believe that no-one will take any interest from us seriously.
The last time I bought was 10 years ago, so I may be out of touch.
So, appreciate some advice as to whether my thoughts are about right?
Cheers

Your instinct, combined with a very sluggish housing market, is spot on.
Until you receive an offer on your house you probably won't even know what price range you're looking to buy in.0 -
You're right - agents and sellers won't consider you "proceedable" if you need to sell your property to fund the purchase and don't yet have a buyer lined up.
No harm, in theory, in checking out what's available, and pitching the sale price of yours accordingly, but real heartache in falling fir your dream house and then not getting it.
Good luck with the saleMortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -
I'd download property bee and make sure you know what the prices are like in the areas you're looking at. I wouldn't view though and if your wife is keen to do so, point out how annoyed she'd be if people who were in no position to buy came to view your property.0

Good advice here. Property Bee is very useful- even if only to show how slow the market is at the moment and how many deals fall through- a real wake up call for those of us hoping to sell quickly because we made the mistake of finding our dream house before putting our current home on the market.....0
