Delia's recipe can be made without alcohol... let me just find it for you...

I made this one last year and it was lovely , pretty easy to make too .I must admit though,I didn't use whole almonds( I used sliced) as suggested ,or whole mixed peel ( couldn't find any, so I just used a good quality ready to use mixed peel ) I imagine it would taste just as nice without the brandy"Every time you feel yourself getting pulled into someone else's nonsense, tell yourself: Not my circus, not my monkeys." - Mark Borkowski.

To bump this old thread, but does the brandy play no part in the preserving process? I want to make this, but alchohol free also!
On a related note, I want to do the same for a Christmas cake. Delia says to soak the fruit overnight in Brandy before you start- could this just be omitted, or could I use orange juice (or something else) instead?0 -
Alcohol does indeed preserve the mincemeat, but if you want to use fruit juice instead then you can, but you'll need to make it and use it pretty quickly and keep it in the fridge. Best to leave it till the last minute rather than get ahead now. The sugar will help preserve it too.0

If the alcohol is the problem then just put it in a saucepan and bring it to boiling point and simmer for a few minutes. The alcohol will be destroyed but you will be left with the taste. One life - your life - live it!0
