It's got everything to do with the question. If he has a bona fide tax status, then he can be determined an employee. If it was cash in hand, that is a totally different matter altogether and he is a freelancer, despite what he says.

It is very easy to misconstrue what is being said on a forum.

What I did object to in this thread is the persistent naming of the hotel in question - this was totally unnecessary.

Anyway I am glad that your son got his payment.
