Popped into my local Comet (Norwich) and saw they were selling off third generation IPOD 2GB shuffle for £18.60 (Blue and Pink). Doesn't show online and may be store specific but thought it was worth mentioning if anyone happens to be going to comet and wants to check.
I'm not usually an apple fan but I needed a new mp3 for gym and thought this price made it worthwhile. Although it is a "shuffle" you can actually make playlists on this through itunes, though you need the original earphones to select them for playback.
Hope that's useful to someone.

I have really regretted buying one of these for my DD at Xmas - the problem with this model is that the controls are on the earphones, which are very flimsy and when they break you can't replace them with any old earphones. After 3 sets of headphones (probably spent as much on headphones as on the i pod!) , the controls have now stopped working altogether & we have had to return it.
Its a good price, but there's a reason for that...

I agree the original apple headphones are required (and they are not great sound quality) but surely if they break within warranty period they should be replaced free of charge. That's certainly what I'll be demanding if they fail. I certainly won't be buying three sets in six months...and if they insist on trying to charge for the headphones I'll return the whole thing since, as you say, they are required to control the unit.

They wouldn't replace the headphones, said it was wear & tear & only the base unit was under guarantee...
