Hi, I am new here, and not sure if this is on the correct forum or not, so forgive me.
My wife passed away yesterday, so now I am in the process of sorting everything out. One thing is nagging me though. My wife has a debt of around 13k on two credit cards that are in her name only. Until now we have been paying them off on an informal agreement, with both companies being happy with the agreement.
My wife has passed away leaving very little money (a few hundred pounds), and no assets, our mortgage is in joint names. However, she did tell me that she has some sort of pension arrangement, where in the event of her death, my daughter and I both get a payout of around 14K. I have yet to confirm this, as I have not got round to dealing with this as yet.
My question is, as my wifes pension is leaving a payout to us, are can the credit card company claim any of the money as being theirs? I just think it would be so unfair that my daughter should lose this money through no fault of her own.
Any advice and thoughts would be most welcome. Thanks.

Hi I didn't want to read and run, I'm so sorry for your loss. I think there is a bereavement thread on here somewhere which may be of more help, but from what I understand from dealing with my Dads estate is that pension payments are separate I don't think the credit card company can make a claim on it.0
