Poor Credit Rating, Need Help

Hi I was looking for some advice please.
I recently got a credit report from Equifax as I was getting refused for credit and didnt know why.
I have been seperated for 2 years and have been staying in rented acommodation for the same period. The property that I shared with my wife and 2 children is still being occupied by my wife 2 children and her partner. I am currently going through a divorce and waiting to get my name off the mortgage.
There has been a number of missed payments on the mortgage during the time I have not been there and this has seriously affected my credit rating. It currently stands at 220.
Once I get my name removed from the mortgage is it possible to get this off my credit file? or would I need to rebuild my credit rating?
Not sure what to do next !!!!!!!

Hi
If the mortgage is in arrears then it may be difficult to get your name taken off the mortgage. The mortgage company will want the mortgage to be up to date and will need to assess your ex partner to see if they will be prepared to give them a mortgage in their own name.
If/when your name is removed from the mortgage then you would need to file a notice of disassocation from your ex with all 3 of the credit reference agencies (you can only do this if you have no open joint credit accounts).
After that it will be a case of following the usual advice for maintaining a good credit history - Credit Rating: How it works and how to improve itA smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
