Debt sold to Lowell - next step?

Hi,
I've been getting a letter every month from Lowell saying I owed money to them. I've been chucking them in the bin as I couldnt figure out what it could be for. They then started sending a letter saying that a debt collector or baliff company (Red something?) was now going to persure the debt. Thos letters went in the bin anyway, in the mean time I started digging to find out what the debt was for, which turned out to be insurance for something dating back to 2005/6 via Creation Consumer Finance. I wrote to them asking for a full break down of the amount owed as the information shown on the online account was a mess and didnt add up. They have simply replied today saying the debt for £125 was sold in June last year to Lowell and I have to pay them Lowell, I had made a good will gesture payment online which they promptly refunded.
So my question is this, where do I stand?
My debt was with CCF, not Lowell.
CCF should provide me with the requested information to support the claimed debt, right?
I want to pay only the original creditior what is owed, not Lowell bunch of monkeys.
As Lowell now 'own' my debt which I'm sure they didnt pay £125 for, if I had to pay them, can I negotiate an amount bearing that in mind? Or can I just pay CCF since I have no credit agreement with Lowell anyway.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If lowell have bought the debt, you will have to deal with them.
Firstly, I'd send them the "prove it" letter and see what they come back with.
Don't make any payments yet.Happiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -
agree with above it is for them to prove you owe the debt not the other way round. Send them a letter telling them you do not acknowlege the debt and that you require them to provide you with a consumer credit agreement and evidence of what the debt is for, including a statement of account.
Pound to a penny they wont have any of that information. send them a £1 postal order (not chq) for the CCA and make it clear the £1 is solely for that purrpose and no other reason.
Sit back and see what happens. Not a lot i suspect and they will probably contact you and say they wont be persuing it.

Ok, will send them a letter and see what happens, have a funny feeling as CCF sent me the letter with a copy of a Lowells letter attached ... think they might have contact with each other. Better go to the PO tomorrow then!
Just looked at my Experian report ... looks like Lowell have searched me every months for about a year :S
Thanks for the input though guys.

if u havent admited to the debt or paid anything to it in 6 years then the debt will be statute barred and you shouldnt get chased for it.
you will probably see the debt passed to another dca soon as lowell will give up chasing it . it took me a about 6 months to get rid of lowell chasing me they will give up sooner or later.0 -
I'm in a similar situation! I bought a sofa from Land Of Leather in 2007 and was obviously 'naive' about doing so. I apparently took a 'loan' out which gave me 12 months interest free credit. 12 months and 2 weeks later I paid off in total what I believed to be the outstanding balance (although I was aware that the payment was a little late) and heard nothing more. Approx 12 months back I received a phone call at my work place from Creation Consumer Finance, requesting I make an immediate payment, but could not provide me with any details as to what the payment was for! I put this down to some 'dodgy scam', and that was that, as I had no idea who they were. In the last week, I have received 2 letters from Lowell Financial stating that I now owe them money as they have bought the debt from Creation Finance. When I spoke to them they stated that the debt was 'interest' from a previous loan with CCF who had been unable to contact me at my home address (I moved house a few years ago). I have now found myself in a pickle and £1854.44 in debt, and don't see that I have any way out of it!!! :-s0

You have just stated that you paid them, do you have bank statements to prove it?
Send them the prove it letter.
There is always a way out of it.I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.
