so your friend asked for a sick note for 1 week and expected that to run from when their self cert ran out, but instead doc wrote a sick note for 1 week from the date they saw your friend?

I know when I saw the doctor after being hospitalised for 2-3 days and was seen on the first day out so in the self cert period, I was signed off for a month and it started the day I was seen not 2 days later
  • I think you will find that a doctor can normally write a fit note from the date that you see them or backdate it but cannot write one to start anytime in the future as this would be seen to prejudge a persons state of health at that time.
Sometimes it seems that just when I think I have reached rock bottom, someone hands me a shovel.

Because I'm highly sceptical when I hear stories of people being off work for stress. Stress is a part of life - it's normal. If work didn't involve stress, it wouldn't be work.

Sometimes I think modern society is so soft, it's shameful.

The pendulum has swung too far.
Perhaps your line of argument is best pursued in a separate thread, where it is not being discussed over the top of someone trying to seek help and advice on an issue arising from stress.
