Ikea Card Charge - What Should I Do?

I have an Ikea card and was 1 day late making a payment, they've charged me £20 arreas fee even though they received my payment a date late.
I made the payment on 29th Nov via the internet, they applied the charge on the 3rd Dec and my payment reached my account on the 4th December
Should I call them and ask them to remove the arreas fee and make noises about unfair charges or just swallow it!
Many thanks
Pattie

I would contact them first and ask them nicely to remove it (this works a lot more often than you would think, particularly if you haven't been charged before). You might have to push them a bit, and ask to speak to a manager if necessary, but if you make it clear they will lose you as a customer if they are not prepared to refund the charge, chances are they may do it.
If this doesn't work, you can follow the 'reclaiming your bank charges' procedures for reclaiming your charge from them (although it might be quite a lot of effort for the sake of £20)."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
I know a couple of people that have called and had charges removed in circumstances like this. Its worth the phone call and play the loyal customer thing0

Hi,
Nationwide didn't honour last month's £11 DD to Ikea as there was a 24hr gap between funds going into my account. NW charged me £30 and Ikea charged me £20 for arrears and another £20 for unpaid DD, although I have never missed a payment and I paid online the following day. So the £11 DD has cost me an extra £70.
Neither have agreed to refund the charges despite my polite requests. Sorry to be negative, I do hope you get better results. I feel so downhearted with my financial situation just now that this was the icing on the cake.
PS I shall try again, after reading the above replies. Fingers crossed....0 -
I have just spoken to Ikea again and they said that both charges are automated and are applied immediately when a payment is late. They said I need to write a letter and someone will look into it, though because of the time of year, they probably won't get back to me until January! They can't cancel or reduce charges by phone. It's all such a bother but I shall write in, I hope you write to them as well, Pattie. They can't get away with such extortion. Meanwhile, goodbye Ikea card.....

I just called their customer service number and I was told to write to some PO BOX I asked for a number instead which she gave to me. I called them and managed to get the arrears charge reversed, but I had to make this months payment first.0

Well done. I'm interested you could do it by phone. I had a most unfriendly person on the phone who insisted I write to the PO box and when I asked for a name, she siad the box number would suffice! Yet I had paid by bank transfer within 24hrs of it being returned by the bank. I shall call them back, I think. As £40 charges on top of the £30 bank charges is too outrageous for words.
Congrats on getting your money back. :T0 -
Call them again and ask for them for the number, I think it was their collections department. You never know
