Meal plan advice needed - no freezer, no storecupboard

Hi guys,
I am currently travelling round Australia on a working visa, and living in hostels. Because I'm travelling around I'm never in one place for more than a couple of weeks, and obviously don't have a store cupboard I can stock up. None of the hostels I have stayed in so far have had freezers, although there is usually a fridge (not necessarily with any free space in it!) and a box each in a cupboard.
I am trying to live on a tight budget as I can't rely on finding a job immediately in each new place I go to, but I am struggling as all the things I used to do back home have gone out the window - I am only cooking for myself, instead of the 3 people I am used to back home, and I can't make larger batches then freeze the rest as I have no access to a freezer.
Where I am right now there is an Aldi nearby, and a little further but still walkable there are another couple of supermarkets, although I have looked in vain for an Indian or Chinese supermarket. At my current hostel, and most of the others I have been to so far, there is free cereal, milk, bread and spreads in the mornings, and I usually make up sandwiches with the breakfast freebies to have for lunch. The only trouble is when it comes to dinner, I'm struggling for inspiration. Have ended up just having pasta with veg and tomato sauce most nights, or tuna melts with cheap cheese and tinned tuna. Save me from this culinary cul-de-sac!
Any advice will be gratefully received :-)
