The DLA form is separate, yes. Ring for a form now. It is VERY complex and it is best to have her GP, psychiatric nurse, or social worker help complete the last section of the form. My child receives it for her dyspraxia, but her paed filled out the last part of the form and our health visitor also completed a supporting statement because she is quite learning impaired by it but her impairments were first spotted at her 8-month-check and are ongoing. We did not have to appeal, her application was approved first time, but others have had to appeal and been successful.

    It's worth perservering, IMO.

Freegle is like Freecycle. Try Freecycle, too. There might be a free slow-cooker in your area.

Yes, yes, you need to take in a bag of snacks to work. My husband always did. Pot Noodle, Cup A Soup, wee tins of tuna, a loaf of bread or some wraps, which keep even better than bread. If you have a fridge at work, then some cheese and a jar of pickle or Marmite. Will have you loads.
Three unsecured debts of £12,000 in total. Applied for DAS (Scotland) 31/5/11. Onwards and upwards!

From the cut downs rather than cut outs of smoking I make a saving of

30+26+10+15+50+12.95+75+20 = £238.95 saved. Smoking not cut out and £25 extra on groceries to fund lunch. You could clearly cut more money from groceries but that start would sort you out for the time being.

  • It has to be said Andrew that getting DLA for MH conditions isnt easy,if you can get help from any of the following, if avaliable in your area, with the form
welfare rights,cab,d.i.a.l, dla is about the care and or mobility issues your OH has NOT the condition, good idea to keep a diary for the next 2 weeks of care/mobility issues, this will help when filling out the forms

My OH gets DLA for mental health issues, I did the renewal forms for him and they are a total nightmare - he had no problems getting it but I hear of so many people who do.

I agree with woodbine, and DEFINITELY get her GP and HV on board. You may have to appeal, but that's not unusual from what I hear about some conditions, even people with autism can be turned down first time. It's a big myth that you just park up and get money as far as DLA is concerned. We had advice from a Welfare Rights Centre to check it over first time. You have to be REALLY negative.

Take you in a bag at work with some staples in it if you've not got a locker or you desk share if you work the call centre - Pot Noodle is really good and the Lidl version has fewer nasties in it, IME if you have a workplace kettle. Tins of fish, some hard cheese and pickle sarnies, a jar of Nutella and digestives for a quick choccie fix, even if you buy crisps and sweeties in the supermarket to take in it's miles cheaper than those vending machines. Don't forget to bring in a flask if your work place has not got a kettle for staff. Put your wee drop milk in an old, washed out fizzy juice bottle and stick that in an insulated lunch bag like for wee ones with a little ice pack from Poundland to keep you going.

I put the kettle on in the morning as it is, and I put two bags of tea in a flask and fill it up on just the one go of the kettle and that's us got tea on tap during the day.

I use my slow cooker so much because then I can buy cheaper cuts of meat and get them nice and soft with just water and an Oxo cube. I round it out with all sort of beans or split peas or if you don't fancy the taste of that the best thing is red lentils as they stew down to pure mush you can mash it with a fork and not taste it at all.

And best of all if your partner is ill you and she or just you can sort it all out before you go on shift, put it in a sealable plastic bag, then pour it in the slow cooker and whack it on before you go away for your shift and when you come back there is a good meal for all and just the one thing to wash up.
