Combination Saving

Sorry if this isn't perfectly on topic, it was the most relevant board I could find.

Looking over the boards and what I see each day on MSE, it has struck me that a lot of people could be missing a trick.

I personally think it would be useful to have a 'Combination Saving' board on here as a seperate section. What I mean by this is simple money saving techniques, combined together to save even more (for example, saving up points on a card, using a shopbot to find a cheap item and then using the points to purchase the item whilst also gaining cashback through something like quidco).

Hopefully this makes sense, what do you all think?

I think this is what Martin tries to encourage as a general moneysaving technique. See THIS ARTICLE as an example.

The only flaw in your original suggestion, regarding using points and then getting cashback, is that the majority of points schemes mean that you have to redeem them instore and for cashback you would need to do the whole transaction online.

I suppose a simpler way, for example, could be a price comparison using Kelkoo/HSW via Quidco (gaining a few pence cashback) then adding a search on MSE (hunting for loopholes, misprices and discount codes) then purchase via a cashback site and using a cashback credit card. ;)

I don't think that an additional board would help to clarify things though, personally - it is really just about thinking purchases through properly beforehand and trying to maximise the savings. There isn't a quick solution - it needs some time and effort but the rewards are well worth it. :)
