Crochet Blanket Question

I can crochet but would like to do a blanket, spent ages googling and found lots of granny squares, but not sure if its to 'holey' for a blanket.

Can anyone tell me any good less holey stiches so I can look them up? I have spent ages looking but so much out there to look through! I am thinking maybe a wavey/liney thing but any hints or help I would be very grateful, Thanks.

I always use granny squares for blankets.

If you want some less holey you could use a smaller sized needle or use half trebles instead of trebles for your stitches. Or even use double crochet.

Still do the granny squares as they are very easy to sew up and the blanket grows much quicker than if you do it another way.

What size blanket is it meant to be?
  • Thanks its going be for the sofa, or however big it gets before I get fed up! Good idea about using smaller needle that would work.

When my mum does the treble bit on the granny squares she always does a stitch inbetween each one to separate them, and when going around a corner, she does three. I always find this is 'holey' the same as you, so I don't do the stitch in between, and only one or two at the corners, depending on the wool.

Sorry I can't be more technical - I only know how it's done, I could never follow a pattern. :(

i've got the opposite problem. i'm crocheing my first granny square blanket. it is one big square ( i'm making a cot blanket for my baby) but i seem have made it very neat and although there are holes, it isn't that holey it that makes sence. don't get me wrong it is lush and very warm, but reading this i think i need to add extra stitches.

so next one i make i'll try to make it looser and more holey.

mine are never that holey i think it depends on how loose or tight you keep it and the wool in my opinion, they look amazing as they grow,my lo changed her mind for the one colour she wanted for her bed blanket and picked a beautiful turquiose colour have to say ive done 2 balls in 2 days and it looks great already,so addictive
