More London Free Festival – Fringe

Welcome to the start of the More London Free Festival! June is where we showcase a variety of Fringe activities, July, Free Music, August Free Theatre and we finish in September with Free Films. All events are free and open to all – and there are no tickets, just turn up and enjoy the shows. We do recommend you get here early though as many of the these events reach capacity.
Week 1
Palladini Productions perform Citiest of Cities
Date: 1 – 3 June 2011

This is Palladini Productions second visit to The Scoop at More London and this latest production promises to have the audience laughing with a unique blend of comedy and drama.
Written specifically for The Scoop at More London this four-cornered romantic comedy unfolds over the capital will bring to the audience an alternative London full of the most amazing revelations .

The Merry Opera Company presents Troy Boy

A new and witty translation of Offenbach’s La Belle H!lène
The Merry Opera Company brings its fresh and lively production of ‘Troy Boy’, Kit Hesketh Harvey’s translation of Offenbach’s ‘La Belle Helene’. The action has been transported to suburban England where the beautiful Helen is well and truly fed up with her very boring husband. So a trip to the local Greek restaurant and an encounter with the handsome waiter from Troy can only lead to trouble! Sung in English, this is truly accessible opera for all.

The Pantaloons present The Canterbury Tales

Critically-acclaimed open-air theatre company The Pantaloons bring Chaucer's pilgrims to life in this brand new adaptation of the medieval classic with a contemporary twist. In a preview before their national tour, expect music, laughter and tears as a cast of larger-than-life characters tell their tales of deception and redemption, magic and majesty, life and death. Oh, and talking chickens.
Week 4
Chickenshed presents Tales from the Shed
Date: 22 – 24 June 2011
Time: 12:30 – 13:30
Age recommendation: 0-7 years
Step into a world of music and magic - Tales from the Shed, brings stories, both original and traditional, to life in a land of colour, characters and fun. This interactive performance for the under 7’s introduces them to a universe where there is no edge to the stage, so children and performers travel a theatrical journey together. Tales from the Shed is part of Chickenshed’s inclusive programme. It is for all children and shows us a world where everybody can come and share together and not only believe in the magic but make it happen. (Children attending must be accompanied by an adult).
Each show is different, but all shows creatively helps to improve literacy, numeracy and communication skills.

Chickenshed presents ‘Crime of the Century’
Date: 22 – 24 June 2011

Chickenshed’s explosive dance theatre company have turned their attention to the proliferation of knife crime amongst young people.Portraying a stark journey about the build up and repercussion of one fatal moment, ‘Crime of the Century’ uses words, movement and projection, alongside a contemporary score of hip hop and dance music, to pack a frightening punch.
Following three separate tragic deaths of teenagers associated with the company, Chickenshed embarked on producing a piece of theatre that could be used as a positive tool in the fight against knife crime. Based on interviews with victims, perpetrators, families, surgeons, police officers and ex-offenders, the resulting critically-acclaimed show, ‘Crime Of The Century’, is a must-see production for our times.

From 4 May until 31 August, join fitness professionals from 37° for free fitness classes in The Scoop at More London. Classes run each Wednesday morning from 07.30 – 08.30 and are suitable for all fitness levels and abilities. For your first class please turn up 10 minutes before as you will have to register and complete a Par-q form. Classes are limited in size; therefore they will be run on a first come first served basis.

Shakespeare Happens: The Tragedy of Macbeth
Date: 25 - 30 May 2011
Time: 19:30 - 21:30
This year’s production is set in a world that is not our own and sees three childlike witches plunging the audience into the witches’ cauldron that is The Scoop at More London, from which the dark story of Macbeth bubbles. The witches treat the other characters as their toys to be manipulated, played with and ultimately cast aside.
Project Dance
Date: 4 June 2011
Time: 11:00 – 18:00
Project Dance was born out of a desire to serve the people of New York City directly after the events of September 11th and it has managed to do just that. Each year thousands of New Yorkers stop to watch the concert held on a temporary stage on the corner of 44th Street and Broadway now in it’s 10th year. About 200 dancers will gather in London to take part in the festivities and similar events are held in Houston, Orlando, Penang, Sydney, Brisbane, and Washington DC.
Carers Thames Walk

There are three quarters of a million Carers in London. This is the 6th Carers’ Thames Walk, organised in order to raise the profile of Carers and to raise funds for the local Carers Support Centres (and of course to have some fun!). It is organised by a committee of Carers and Carers Centres and is supported by The Process Royal for Carers and Crossroads.
STEP Out! 2011

Since 2005 our resident theatre company, Steam Industry Free Theatre, have created a mammoth education project in collaboration with Southwark Theatres Education Partnership. Working with up to six local schools groups throughout the summer term, up to 180 local young people have explored themes from this year's family show 'Around the World in Eighty Days', looking at what they mean to them in 2011. Each group has written and created their own piece of theatre in response which will be performed for the first time here at the Scoop at More London.
IPHIGENIA – on Thames
