Hello friends,

My wife recently got a job.
She has a short term job for 6 months.

She is going to get 15K for the 6 month period and she got her 1st month salary slip.
1. She is being charged for 30,000GBP tax and NI
2. Her total value is calcuated for 1 year rather than 6 months.

a. How can we advice HMRC not to take 1 year as her job is for 6 months?
Or is there a way to claim back the already paid extra taxes?

b. Is it advantageous to pay more tax and then claim it back. Will it improve any of the credit history?

c. Is the NI to be paid by everyone? Even if you were not having job for long due to child birth and working after long period?

thanks in advance

tax ia based on a tax year which starts on 6th April and ends on the following 5th April

she will pay tax on the amount she earns from 6th april
if she stops working and in september then she will have to apply for a tax refund.

NI is paid based on her weekly or monthly salary and it can't be repaid if she stops working

NI is based on her MONTHLY wage and NOT on her yearly total

post up the figures and we can check them for you

On a monthly gross salary of £2500, assuming normal NI category A (i.e. she isn't a pensioner) then 227.76 NI is due from the employee.
Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.
