Default on Wonga loan?

Hi everyone,

Sorry to be a bother (this is my second thread today)
and please don't give me the spiel about payday loans - i well and truly have learnt my lesson.

I have today defaulted my payday loan. I have had this loan since August last year. I have been rolling over the payments and paying the interest every month, and when I eventually had to pay it off, it took most of my paypacket so had to reapply to get some money back.

This month it is due in full and I just can't afford to pay it. I have tried to call them put I just get put on hold for ages and ages and I never can get through to anybody.

I dont wan't to 'hide' away from this, I want to face up to it and get it out of the way. My final balance is £872 including interest and charges up to today. I would like to pay Wonga all i can afford which is going to be about £250 a month. What can I do about this, what is my best course of action and does anybody have any templates for contacting them?

Really appreciate any helpful comments

Thanks

Are you still using the bank account/bank card that they have access to?

Suggest you need to open a new bank account elsewhere and have your wages paid into that so you can protect your money from Wonga. Once this is done and they cannot hekp themselves to your money then I would write to them and make the monthly repayment offer you can afford.

I transferred my reamining funds into a different account before Wonga tried to ge their hands on it, yes.

I will also consider getting my wages paid into another account.

You must get your wages paid into the new account, which must not be with any company that is finacnially related to the one that wonga know about.

And try and close the old account ASAP.

  • Hiya, Ive just had the same problem as you, i managed to get through to them the other day, they told me to phone back on sat ( after i had paid some of my loan off, to get the account and intrest frozen), so i tried and tried all day yesterday to get through to them, think i was on the phone about 20 mins waiting.

I eventually got through today, the day i was due to pay off the loan. I was told they would add a £20 late fee to my account, but it was now on hold and i can pay £64 a month for 4 months to get it paid off, with no extra intrest added ( thank god)

I did ask him, if i come into some unexpected money can i pay extra to get it paid off quicker, but was told no, cant remember what he said, something to do with the intrest or something. But he did tell me, if i did pay a bit extra it would be like giving them a donation lol, so i dont think ill be doing that lol.

He did apologise for me not being able to get through yesterday, but trying sunday afternoon i managed to get through straight away.

hope this helps a bit, and hope you get it all sorted out soon, think ive learnt my lesson too, about pay day loans.

There is no law statutory or otherwise that says you cannot overpay a debt that is pure bull what he is telling you, and the reason he is telling you that is to maximize the interest.

I would be making a complaint in writing.

I would do better than "consider" putting your wages into another account, they will come and grab it and you'll have no chances of getting it back.

  • I was due to pay my Wonga loan today but my benefits did not come through as expected due to technical issues. It will definitely be in by tomorrow but want to know if Wonga charge more than a £20 fee if pay off the existing loan?

Also, will desperately need to reapply as have no money at all for over Xmas if pay the loan back tomorrow so need to know what would someone else do if they were me?

Have always paid back my Wonga loans - This is the very first time the payment didn't go through, so not sure if you can reapply once you pay the loan a day later?
  • If your on benefits can you not apply for a social fund or budgeting loan? It would be alot better than Wonga.
