Tooth abcess/infection.... on Holiday

Hi Friends,
I am looking for some advice. The third tooth in, front bottom had a large filling, maybe 3 years ago, a bit of it broke off recently and I went to the dentist maybe 5 days later(first appointment), she said it should be crowned as its 50/50 tooth to filling(vertically) she then painted/placed some grey stuff over the join between the tooth and the filling and told me to think about the crown by my next check up(June). 3 weeks later it started to throb and the bit in front of it was slightly swollen, I made another appointment as I was going on Holiday abroad for 2 weeks. I saw a different Dentist who said I might need root canal before the crown and gave me 5 days of Amoxycillin. I did say i was going abroad. I am now on Holiday and my mouth is swollen below the tooth, I only have one more day of the antibiotics to go. I am not sure what to do. Should I buy more antibiotics? You can buy them over the counter. Should I buy the stronger ones? like Metronidazole? I have had them before for a tooth infection.
I have asked my Mum to call the Dentist for advice but its closed til Tuesday now.
Thanks,

Where are you on holiday, in the EU or outside? Do you have holiday insurance, if so does it cover dental treatment? I personally would want to see a dentist before self prescribing.
Metronidazole is one of the antibiotics I have been given for an abcess, but PLEASE do not drink if you decide to buy them. A few people have died from the combination.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

I'd get your EHIC card out and go see a dentist, he/she will be able to treat you properly, remember it's potentially serious enough to ruin the rest of your holiday, (also asking for medical advice on here is banned so the thread will probably be closed quite soon anyway)
Go ask for an appointment today, as it might be a few days before you get an appointment if it's anything like the system here in the UK.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
