I've got a sister in america and so I can get any orders sent to her and she'll bring them over. Any1 know of any real bargains I could order, any major tip offs and I may agree to a small order of your own

From my experience there isnt anything much cheaper in the US. And you usually run the risk of getting stung by taxes on the way into the UK.

Ive been looking for a new guitar and even after the favourable exchange rates atm it still works out the same price in the US as the UK.

I think it's a matter of finding a good deal - american sites tend to have better 'deals' than we do over here. Some cashback deals even make some items free!

Mini ipods are only £95 on amazon.com so a slight saving!

Taxes - just take item out of box and pretend it's not new! You get a couple of hundred quid limit anyway

Don't buy DVD players, TVs or video recorders.

Don't buy DVDs unless your sister's DVD player & TV can handle Region 1

Check that anything you buy CAN be run on 240V instead of 110V

It should be noted that most ac to dc power supplies either separate or in built into the appliance can take 110 - 240 v input. Unfortunately, it will normally say label on power supply or on the back of the appliance. It saves the manufacturers money not having make specific power supplies for differents parts of the world. They can just change power cable so it has right plug.

So that is worth looking out for also the etailers like amazone, egg head and ciuit city are good. Wal Mart and their shopping club Uncle Sams is great as are Target. Barnes and Noble the bookstore have great web and instore offers.

I was looking at a dual screen DVD player for the kids as we are driving up to scotland. Argos have the 4.5 inch version for £199 Walmart USA have it for $199 for the 6" version.

Most DVD player can be made multiregion go to VCDHELP.COM and check the hardware reviews. Get one that can be done simply via the remote. The PSU might be 110v 60Hz and you TV might neet to support NTSC. Having said that DVD players in the UK are quite cheap.

You should go to https://www.fatwallet.com or https://www.anandtech.com and look on their 'hot deals' forums. Most bargains in America require a rebate process (where you pay full price for the item, then get some massive rebate).

I buy a laptop this way every year, get my dad to bring it back (he lives out there) and do all the rebate stuff, then I sell it on ebay UK for the same or sometimes more than I paid for it a year earlier, and get a new one! Great way to keep your technology up to date and new for free if you're a laptop user :-)

Just got my girlfriend a brand new Toshiba Satellite Laptop with Celeron M 1.3ghz, 15.4" WXGA screen, DVD/CDRW, 512mb RAM, 60gb, Win XP for $499 ($999 at a shop, price matched to $849 at another local shop, minus $250 in rebates).

My experience has been that things were a lot cheaper in the USA as priced seemed to be dollar for pound the same. On my trips to New York I found the electronics shop were willing to haggle and you could trade one against the other, try that in Dixons and see how far you get!

On my first trip a few years ago I bought a Fuji digital camera, haggled the price down, got 2 extra memory card and a case throw in for £179. On return I found it in Argos and PCWorld at £299. Ever since then its been watches, clothes, Epson glossy paper, all sorts. Circuit City is my idea of heaven! Even though its cheaper I am not allowed any more toys right now by Matron.

Rule Number One - Always buying the eletronics stuff from the store who offers "Price Match". You may need to read its price match policy as well.

Some store even do the price match as well as 5% - 10% off.

For example, Best Buy, they match the price, if you can find the cheaper one on news paper or any advs, bring that advs or paper to Best Buy(BB), tell them, and they will do the price match plus 5% off. Pretty neat right?

Best Buy is not the only one, try Sears or others... but it really depends on whick kind of elextronics device you are going to target on.
