Sets come in different track sizes and that is what makes them more expensive, there is also the sport digital track an that is even more expensive
The entry level track is grand prix and it is just an oval costs about £50
The next is X1 it is a figure of 8 with a cross over, it comes in 3 prices £50 for the base cars grand prix, road rivals. £60 for the mini coopers. £80 for the powerslide drift set which is really good fun.
X2 is an elongated figure 8 and starts at about £80 more track so you can make more circuits
then its X3 you get more track with a racing crossover curve which are pretty smart it is a figure 8 again but the crossover is raised starts at £95 up to £110
then your on to X4, loads of track loads of options to make your own circuit up £135 gets you the leman set or £140 gets you the super cars. I started with the classic Le mans set.
When you go to the sport digital tracks you have the extras like 6 carsrunning on 2 lanes, changeing lanes link to the PC for race management in some sets. to go digital the base set is about £125 going skyward to £200
the cars, I would stay away from open top cars, F1 caterams to many bits sticking out to be broken off. I also have a pair of motor bikes but am too scared to put them on the track. I only have a few scalextric cars I decided to buy Fly cars they work on the same track no problem but are alot quicker and more detailed.0 -
boots are doing a scalextric micro set for £40 that is also on 3 for 2.
or depending on his age you can get a simpsons one from most places for about £30 (little miss divadee loved that when she got it a couple of years ago!!)
depends if he wants a full size set or a micro!! j
ust remembered that the entertainer had a batman micro set for £15 have a look here for that one if i remember right delivery is about £3.95 so that is a really good price for a scalextric (if he likes batman of course!!)
i would say if they are young the micro sets are good for starters!!!!0
