ATM withdrawal dispute

Hi,
To cut the story short, withdrew £250 (visa debit card) from an Alliance & leicester cash machine, only to have received £230. (notes came out all scattered and not in a neat pile). I have reported this as an ATM dispute to my bank, the Co-op and have been told to wait ten working days before I get a reply.
No-one seems to care about the claim ( you hang on the phone for ages etc. and you just get bluffed etc) Does anyone have any tips how to move this thing forward properly and what my rights are/how I am covered??
Thanks in advance,
Crazyb

Been there - my OH had £20 short on a withdrawal from an ATM at Lloyds. They said we would have to wait until they reconciled the ATM. Then they said that the till was not up so it was not possible that he had been shortchanged. I lost my rag and made a formal complaint to the bank and told them, don't tell me it's impossible, a friend of mine tells me she once got too much out so it's obvious on occasion that the money sticks together. He got refunded but I had to get nasty in order to get it.
I don't know what your actual legal rights are, I'm simply guessing from knowing the banks that they are non existent or limited because of the difficulty in proving it.0 -
Had a similar problem recently having tried to withdraw £100 and getting nothing - the machine came up with a message of "your request has been cancelled" This was with a natwest card in a coop machine. Reported it the next morning in the natwest branch, waited about a week and the money was in my accout again. Apparently they only balance the machines once a week, so if it was balanced on the day of your transaction you would have to wait a week for them to do it again. I have to say that natwest were brilliant, chased it up and then rang me to let me know the money was back in my account. Good Luck0
