Good Will payment from Halifax

Is it me or am I just being cynical? I have just received a cheque for £55 from Halifax, Why would a bank give me money for nothing. It said in the letter this is a good will payment because their mortgage offer back in 2007 may not have explained certain details as clearly as it could have.(something to do with the cap only applied in certain circumstances and did not apply to my mortgage.)All jargon to me.
But it has me thinking is this just a way of keeping me sweet and to go away quietly and ask no more questions, or could there be more money in the pot for the likes of me and thousands of others. I.E PPI miss sold, could my mortgage have been miss sold.
Can anyone out there point me in the right direction of getting answers to the above? I have contacted Halifax who said they did not have to give me anything really, but out of the kindness of their heart they know fifty quid would come in handy for me!!!!
Something does not smell right or am I just being cynical.
