I learnt my lesson the hard way.
Being bailed out by my parents with credit cards then consolidating into a loan after running the cards up again not once but 3 times, then not being able to keep up with payments and entering into a trust deed made my lightbulb come on full glow!
I have been without credit cards for over a year now and am managing fine without them. I don't think I will ever have a credit card again. The only debt I want in the future is a mortgage.DFW Nerd no. 177

I just DON'T want to think about this at all!!!!!! :rotfl:
For me, never again - not consumer debt. I'll certainly absolutely 100 per cent never have a credit card again, or a loan. I want savings in the bank, enough to cover emergencies etc. That's the goal after I clear the debt.0 -
Well I have been debt free since April, and it took me years to pay it all off. Only debt I have now is my mortgage. I have enough coming in to cover my outgoings. plus a bit "spare" to save in case of emergencies.
However, I have found it hard to resist the debt again. Its really easy to think Oh well I will have that on finance or get a loan etc. and as you have no debt it kind of makes it seem ok as after all that 1 loan is not as bad as the mess you were in before. But we all know 1 loan will run to a credit card which will run to a store card and then you are in a mess again.
This time of year doesnt help either, the spend spend mentality. I have so far resisted though. I think after Christmas I will find it easier.
but yes it is hard to resist, but I just think of all the misery I went through and that stops me!Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0 -

lot of people like this around. I know someone who had £180.00 bank charges in one week, arrears on their rent, and borrowed £1,000 from provident and yet he's moaning all the time. I know it's hard for everyone at the moment but you just don't go back out and build up more...:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0

We`ve had debts in the past but have them again - no way! But then again who knows what the future will bring, our debts in the past were just so we could live.
The way I look at it we can`t afford debt and I`m very happy about that!0 -
once im clear of all current debt i will never have debt again apart from a mortgage. I will use a credit card but i am now disciplined enough to pay off the balance each month.0
