Crisis loan for rent in advance

Hi guys, just a bit of advice.

I'm due to be evicted from my council house on the 15th. Got behind with rent while awaiting smp. I've been paying the compulsary £5.00 per week since october and my partner moved in about 8 weeks ago. Anyway long story short he didn't pay the said arrears as arranged and so here i am awaiting eviction alone with 2 kids seen as i am now a man down.

In all honesty i can't wait to get out of this house. My 18 month old suffers severe broncholitis, i have mold up my walls, i am 3 radiators down and my windows let more wind in closed than they do open. Councils answer? we've no money. Oh well.

Anyway my old landlady has offered me a lifeline. I can have a new home with no bond but i do need a months rent in advance. I claim jsa contributions based as the advisor said there was no point going back onto income support seen as i'm looking for work anyway.

I have rang crisis loan who have told me to ring back tomorrow as i'm collecting the keys friday. Does anyone know if i am likely to get a crisis loan for this purpose. I've rang for one before and seemed to have been refused due to complete honesty that i couldn't remember what i'd spent my last tenna on.

Firstly the council cannot put you on the streets when you have kids, they will put you in a B&B or maybe a mobile home untill you have paid off the arrears then they will rehouse you, have to admit not a lovely thought but if the worst comes to the worst at least you know you wont be living in a cardboard box.

You can get a crisis loan for rent in advance (they wont pay a deposit anyway so you are lucky you dont have to have one as they would ask where you have got the money from) you will have to give them the landlords phone number, they will get in touch with the landlord as they will pay the deposit directly to them, they will not hand over any money to you, they will phone the landlord and if they agree to pay the advance rent, will arrange to pay it to him/her, they can in a lot of circumstances make the payment the following day if it means you will get a roof over your head.

BUT certain offices wont pay rent in advance if you have made yourself intentionly homeless, for example getting into rent arrears, nor will they pay it if you are getting evicted from council or housing association properties as they know you will be given somewhere temporary to live untill the arrears are paid off and then you will get a decent home.

I hope you get the help you need, but in all honesty as there is no such thing as council housing (they were all taken over by housing associations) I am really surprised they have let it get into that state as they are usualy very good at maintaining their properties, the house you are in now sounds like the sort of temporary place they would put you in if you were evicted and paying off your arrears. good luck

Can I just clarify that there still is such a thing as council housing?

In my area 2 councils still maintain their own stock, it went to vote and the tenants voted against arms length management and housing associations taking over so they have remained with the councils.

ok EE didnt realise that some stiil remained council although HA looks after its tenants much better IMHO. And of course a lot of tenants prefer to say they live in a HA house instead of a council house.

I believe you can apply for a budgeting loan for moving if that helps, you can also apply in this loan for help with moving costs. They will take it out of your JSA at a certain amount a week, but I think whether it's granted depends on how much money they have in their budget for it. Worth trying if you get no-where with crisis loans.

Have a look at this. I know you can a crisis loan for rent in advance but sometimes, depending on what money there is in the "pot", you may not get the full amount. You could also ask about budgeting loans and a community care grant, these could help but again, depends on how much money is available. The link I have posted might be helpful, as it says they can give a same day decision. Good luck with everything xx

The council probably has no money because people don't pay their rent.

I got a crisis loan a couple of years ago, for removal expenses and rent but it wasn't straightforward.

My claim was initially rejected (I was moving for health reasons), and it took something like 3 months, as I had to appeal in writing.

Also, I was given approx 75% of the amount I requested.

However, as you have children, you may get it first time. Good luck!
